Under the authority of the Minister of Scientific Research, the Directorate-General is implementing, collectively with other sectors, the national policy of scientific research and technological development, as defined by law n° 98-11 of 22 August 1998, amended and supplemented.
On this account, the Directorate-General is responsible for implementing all provisions of the law regarding programming, evaluation, institutional organization, human resource development, university research, technology development and engineering, scientific and technical information, scientific cooperation, valorization of research results, infrastructures and big equipment, and funding the five-year programme.
The Directorate-General executes the decisions and recommendations of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research of which it ensures the secretariat CNRST).
The Directorate-General carries out the coordination of the activities of scientific and technological research collectively with other sectors, through Intersectoral Commissions and Thematic Research Agencies and in relation with Standing Sectoral Committees of the sectors concerned by these activities.
In order to accomplish his missions, the Director General is assisted by two directors of studies.
The administration of the Directorate-General is composed of four organizations :
- Directorate of Research Programming, Evaluation and long-term Planning.
- Directorate of Administration and Financing of Scientific Research and Technological Development.
- Directorate of Scientific and Technical Services Development.
- Directorate of Technological Development and Innovation.
